▷▷▷▷ Guided Mindfulness Meditation :: Jon Kabat-Zinn Review

I will make this review quick and to the point.I found Jon Kabat-Zinn's voice on the recording to be very uncomfortable to listen to.I can't quite articulate why, it just doesn't seem natural or flowing, which is essential to relaxing the mind.It was recommended by a friend who obviously didn't find a problem with it.I would suggest listening to a portion of it (maybe on itunes) before buying it.

Product Description
Perhaps no other person has done more to bring mindfulness meditation into the contemporary landscape of America than Jon Kabat-Zinn. Through a number of research studies, and through Kabat-Zinn's pioneering work at the University of Massachusetts Medical School where he is founder of its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic, mindfulness is finally being recognized as a highly effective tool for dealing with stress, chronic pain, and other illnesses. Today, with a four-part home training course, Jon Kabat-Zinn offers listeners the definitive mindfulness meditation practice on CD. "We are not trying to actively achieve a state of deep relaxation or any other state for that matter while practicing mindfulness," he teaches. "But interestingly, by opening to an awareness of how things actually are in the present moment, we often taste very deep states of relaxation and well-being of both body and mind."

▷▷▷▷ Invisible Acts of Power :: Caroline Myss Review

Caroline Myss presents beautiful stories of gratitude and giving to explain how meaningful kindness can be in the life of those in need. She not only addresses financial aspects of giving, but the invisible aspects where you can encourage friends, family and even strangers you only meet once to reach for the best they can be in this lifetime.

Why do some people practice generosity as a "spiritual practice?"
What is the most appreciated type of generosity?
How can you break through fears to awaken your own generosity?
What do people regret the most?
Why do we fear giving to those less fortunate than ourselves?
How can you build someone's self-esteem by giving invisible gifts from the heart?
Why is listening an act of generosity?

Caroline Myss has profound insight into life's many complexities and in Invisible Acts of Power she explores the positive results of emotional, creative, supportive and risk generosity. She now builds additional layers on our understanding of the charkas, although you can enjoy this CD set without knowing detailed information about energetic fields (the interactive charka model at her myss site is very helpful).

What is most interesting about the ideas is how they were inspired by real-life situations and letters sent in by people connected to her website through her newsletter. This opens up a world of experience in which giving takes on practical dimensions.

I can also highly recommend:

Self Esteem: Your Fundamental Power Audio CD Set
Why People Don't Heal and How They Can
Journal of Inner Dialogue (a beautiful companion to the Archetype Cards)
Archetype Cards

It feels as if I have come full circle with Caroline Myss' teachings since I was first introduced to her wisdom through a generous friend. The CD sets make wonderful life-changing gifts that will inspire spiritual growth and moments of deep contemplation. If you are interested in using your power for good, then this essential CD set will inspire you in profound ways.

Best-selling author Caroline Myss was pondering her next body of work when she witnessed a spontaneous act of generosity. A young man, tattooed and pierced, ran to help an older woman with a bundle of packages at the risk of missing his oncoming bus. That act, coupled with her own experience of receiving a helping hand just when she needed it, got Caroline thinking: what are the long-range consequences that result from even the smallest favors offered to others? What really takes place in the energetic field of life when someone responds to someone else in need? On Invisible Acts of Power, this three-time New York Times best-selling author employs her experience as a renowned medical intuitive to answer these questions, explaining why being of service to another person is not an optionit is a biological necessity.

Invisible Acts of Power invites listeners to learn more about:

The seven gifts of generosity and your chakras: how giving to others balances your vital energy system and sustains optimum health

Chance meetingscoincidence or synchronicity? How to recognize the Sacred Contracts that they hold, and translate the messages they bring you

The electricity of Grace: where your currents of prana (life force) intersect Divine intentionand affect every choice you make, and more

As we move from visible acts, such as caring for a friend, to invisible acts, such as prayer and healing, we act divinelywithout ...

▷▷▷▷ The Force of Kindness Review

"Before you know what kindness really is
you must lose things,
feel the future dissolve in a moment
like salt in a weakened broth,
What you held in your hand,
what you counted and carefully saved,
all this must go so you know
how desolate the landscape can be
between the regions of kindness.

~Naomi Shihab Nye

Sharon Salzberg presents kindness in a book about life lived with love and a CD to introduce kindness meditations. Through her work, you can learn how to bring more compassion into the world. She presents her ideas in six chapters:

Compassion in Action
Kindness Toward Ourselves
Overcoming Cruelty
How We See the World
Ethics and Kindness
The Intention of Kindness

Sharon Salzberg teaches us how to see the good inside us and to reflect on things we have done in the world that are positive and nurturing. She recommends spending 15-20 minutes a day on doing something to be kind to yourself. You can also repeat phrases like "May I live in safety," and "May I have mental happiness." She also shows how a natural sense of morality can be born from a sense of empathy and in understanding that hurting others will cause your own suffering.

How can we feel liberating joy?
What is an enlightened being?
Can you dedicate your life to kindness?
How can you become a bodhisattva?

While we all seem to move from unhappiness to happiness on a daily basis or a minute-by-minute cycle of life's ever changing circumstances, this book helps to bring us back to a more centered existence. Sharon Salzberg's teachings encourage you to live with an open heart and be a place of calm in the midst of the world's storms.

"Kindness is the foundation of unselfconscious generosity, natural inclusivity, and an unfeigned integrity. When we are devoted to the development of kindness, it becomes our ready response..." ~Sharon Salzberg

The Art and Practice of Ecstatic Chant Review

Kirtan is becoming increasingly popular in the U.S.As more people embrace a yogic lifestyle, it is only natural that eventually they will find their way to kirtan. If you are unfamiliar with kirtan, it is based on the concept of 'bhakti yoga' - the yoga of devotion. Singing the names of gods or goddesses in a call and response style with hypnotic Indian music in the background, kirtan is believed to bring a deep connection with the divinity within all of us.

Jai Uttal's The Art and Practice of Ecstatic Chant delivers the whole mood of kirtan beautifully.A devotee of kirtan since the age of 19, this talented musician has put together a CD that is melodic, sensuous, intense and truly uplifting. You cannot help but feel moved when the first note hits your ears. There is over 2 hours of music in this CD - and never once will you feel bored.Uttal has a gorgeous voice - you can feel his love of kirtan in every syllable that he utters.

There is an introduction in the CD, where Uttal explains kirtan and the path that led him to it.This is a great piece - I feel that it gives an insight from a true devotee. The intro helps even those who are new to kirtan to understand the significance and beauty of this ancient and spiritual art.I recommend this highly to everyone - not just those on the yogic journey.

There are a few kirtan 'stars' out there in the US these days - Krishna Das and Ragani to name a few - who are helping a wide audience enjoy and appreciate kirtan. While they are wonderful in their own right, my personal favorite will always be Jai Uttal.

Product Description
Jai Uttal is a pioneer in the world music community. His eclectic East-meets-West sound has put his music at the forefront of the world fusion movement. Jai Uttal's musical roots embrace a rich variety of cultures and traditions that span the globe and the centuries. From the hillbilly music of the Appalachian mountains to the passionate strains of Bengali street singers, from the haunting rhythms and melodies of ancient India to contemporary electric rock sounds, Jai's music distills the essence of diverse musical forms.

▷▷▷▷ Realizing the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle: Choose format-CD ($69.95) Review

Eckhart Tolle takes a simple concept that we have all heard... live in the "now", not the past or future... but presents it in Audio in a compelling, life-changing way... somehow precisely defining and explaining every aspect but doing so in a zen-like, simple yet deeply complex way.I was introduced to this by a psychologist friend of mine and it has blessed my life.I have been able to access pure feelings I have not had since childhood.Tolle has a unique and thorough way of explaining things in English that is remarkable for a non-native speaker.A truly brilliant man who has considered every aspect. The only negative for me is that later parts of the presentation get into somewhat personal global philosophies that are not for everyone. The gist and true gems are presented in the first half and can be of value to anyone.
