This is my first go around with a trainer. I looked at tons of them online and finally decided just to go for it. This one serves it's purpose just fine, and I bought it for less than $100, and free shipping. It is somewhat loud, but that is just the sound of my tire riding on the roller. If I had a smoother tread it would quiet down. All steel frame, easy to assemble and adjust. I just use my gears on the bike to increase tension while riding. I set it up in my home theater room and watch DVD's (with headphones on) while peddlin away. No more missed workouts due to weather. Highly recommend.

To state it simply, this is a decent piece of equipment, especially for the price. I arrives one box in two main pieces plus a small bit of hardware to assemble it with. It pulls out of the box easily and then it has to be unfolded and the resistance unit attached. The resistance unit is attached with a carriage bolt and nut and with the adjusting "L" bolt. Initially I had a little difficulty getting the "L" bolt to thread inti the adjusting knob. Rather than risk cross-threading it, I tool the unit off of the trainer, started the "L" bolt into the knob and then finagled the unit into place and inserted the carriage bolt, snugged up the nut a little and I was done . That is all there is to the assembly of the thing, pretty simple. You will have to replace the skewer on your bike with the supplied skewer to fit into the trainer and hold the bike in place. All in all, setup in pretty much a no brainer.

I started riding a bike about two years ago just for fun, fresh air and general health. While this unit doesn't provide as much fun, and no fresh air, it will allow me to ride and keep me from losing all of the conditioning from one season to the next. The trainer arrived today and after only a few minutes set up, I was able to get in a good 35 minute ride at my goal heart rate, using the gears on my bike to increase or decrease pedaling resistance. It was set up on an area rug with a thin padding and I have smooth road tires on my bike so noise was not a major concern, it produced a humming sound, about as loud as say a box fan on medium speed.
