Crescent City Harbor appeared to be the area with the worst damage on the West Coast. Thirty-five boats have been destroyed, and most docks in the harbor were also destroyed, according to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Department. No injuries or deaths were reported. A spokeswoman for the National Weather Service said that at 9:50 a.m. Pacific time, the biggest wave they recorded on U.S. mainland were 3.7 feet in Crescent City, Calif.
The tide began rising just after 7:30 a.m. PST where officials warned of 7-ft waves. This comes hours after tsunami waves swept through Hawaii beaches, where as high as 7-foot waves were also reported.
